Hole in the Wall dates back to 1651, the medieval Inn was then called ‘Ye sign of ye Blackhorse Inn’. It was renowned historically as a coaching house and as a tavern.
Today, driving along Blackhorse Avenue you will catch sight of the imposing Tudor style exterior of the Hole in the Wall, first impressions are lasting. It is exactly 100 metres long qualifying it as the longest pub in Europe.

This pub nestles against the Phoenix park wall. It combines the merits of a Dublin cosmopolitan city pub with the pure, fresh air and amenities of the 1700 acre Phoenix Park. This makes it a unique destination pub in Dublin to visit and without doubt a truly local experience.
Hole in the Wall has a rare mixture of antiquity and character throughout, attention to detail has always been paramount. Everything has been carefully selected to compliment the ambience that characterises the pub, with roaring fires in the winter months adding to its atmosphere.
Exclusively for Taste the Island, this event gives visitors the opportunity to visit the largest walled city park in Europe, followed by a delicious lunch of steamed cockles and mussels with homemade brown bread or a choice of mains from a special Taste the Island Traditional Irish Menu and a pint of Holer, a craft beer which is brewed locally on Dublin’s North side.
This is a weekly event, taking place every Saturday for the duration of the Taste the Island Festival. Meeting at Hole in the Wall at 11:00, local guides Ann or Joe with walk you through the Phoenix Park for an off the beaten track tour. The tour takes two hours at which stage you will have worked up an appetite for lunch which is hosted at Hole in the Wall.
